Hooray, we're almost at the end! Will OK Orchestra be better than Neotheater? Or will it flop? Let us find out.
OK Overture: This is their best overture yet, combining the tracks with new material. 8/10.
Bummerland: It's a song that gets worse the more you listen to it. I think the melody isn't that strong, and gets repetitive fast, so that knocks it down a few points. 6/10.
3 O'Clock Things: This is their best instrumental, but similar to Three-Thirty, it's a rap. The lyrics here are also not the strongest. 6/10.
My Play: Since I'm very, very emotionless when it comes to music, I don't feel sad listening to this :P. But, with that said, I'd say this is a good track. 7/10.
Joe: Again, the instrumental is repetitive. I also hate the whole fast-slow gimmick of OKO, which will be explained in the closing notes section. 6/10.
Adventure Is Out There: The lyrics are funny but the instrumental is stale. 7/10.
Bang!: Finally, some interesting instrumentals! The lyrics are a bit underwhelming, and the instrumental could use a bit more flair, but overall, 9/10.
The Trick: I don't think this is as bad as people say. Sure, the high-pitched Jack is annoying, but it could be worse. 6/10.
Ordinaryish People: Forgettable. 5/10.
Humpty Dumpty: If the above song is forgettable, then this is nonexistent. I think that, personally, this is my least favorite from any studio release. 2/10.
World's Smallest Violin: Overhated due to constantly being played on TikTok, but if I'm honest, it's a pretty cool song (and I'm not saying that because it gave me 175k+ views on YouTube, I'm not biased in that way at all). 8/10.
Way Less Sad: This song is one of my favoriets. 9/10.
Christmas In June: A sad but nice song. 9/10.
Totaling the score, OK Orchestra gets a whopping 6.7. Yeah... it isn't good.
I see what the brothers were trying to do, but I think they executed it poorly. A major problem with the album is that, in every song, it flickers between going fast and then going slow (usually at the chorus). Once you notice this, it becomes a major distraction. The songs themselves were pretty forgettable as the instrumentation was poor.
I mean this when I say it: AJR songs need good lyrics and instrumentals to work. Bummerland might've been higher if the instrumental was better. 3 O'Clock Things had mediocre lyrics which knocked it down. The title is right; it really is an OK Orchestra. It's passable but not preferred.
Will The Maybe Man get a higher rating? Will it be the first AJR album to surpass 7? Tune in to find out.
