Jimmie Lee Jr (also known as JJ Kirkpatrick) was AJR's trumpeter, playing the trumpet in multiple songs from The Click and Neotheater. He left the band later to pursue his own music career. He was succeeded by Arnetta Johnson.
Jimmie Lee Jr plays the trumpet in multiple songs by AJR. He can be seen in the video for the "Apptronic" version of "Break My Face". He also plays the trumpet in, and is shown in the videos for, "Role Models" and "Burn The House Down".
History[]
He began his diverse musical career at the age of 9 when he scored the opening sequence to a 10-minute film he co-directed with his brother. He began playing trumpet that same year, studying with Portland legend Thara Memory. Now based in Los Angeles, he has had the opportunity to work with Wynton Marsalis, Albert "Tootie" Heath, Terence Blanchard, Beyoncé, Craig Robinson, Louis CK (who was mentioned in "Role Models"), and many others.
