The Maybe Man Tour (US)[]

From April to August 2024, The Maybe Man Tour had venues all over the US. It was as high of a budget as their previous album tours. The tour's set list is similar to the Album Release Show, with some big-budget changes.

No. Song Title Album Notes
1 Maybe Man (live debut) The Maybe Man A disembodied voice (Credited as "voice of God") asks the audience where they would go if they could snap their fingers and go anywhere, listing various places and ideas before naming the current venue in which the show is being performed, stating that you can be surrounded by people who "for once, like all the same shit you do." The voice decides to go there and snaps his fingers, beginning the song. Clones of Jack appear around the stage, with a spotlight focusing on one for each stanza creating the illusion of Jack teleporting. Starting from the third stanza, illustrations appear on the screens depicting the subject of the verse (ex, a dog, a brain, etc.)

The final verse is cut for time, instead transitioning into the ending from the line "I'd never know who the hell I am." Lights illuminate all of the Jack "clones," revealing the illusion before the real band pops out from beneath the floor accompanied by a dazzling vortex of colorful musical imagery. Chris, Arnetta, Ryan and Ginny are spotlighted for a brief moment each during the respective segments highlighting the drums, trumpet, piano, and violin.

4 Sober Up The Click Drums and guitar chords lead in directly from the end of Maybe Man as Jack greets the audience and receives a guitar. The background consists of a colorful orb that melts into a rolling landscape of neon shapes. Ryan sings the bridge.
2 Yes I'm A Mess The Maybe Man An orchestral rendition of the intro reminiscent of a superhero's theme leads into the song. Jack walks on a treadmill in front of visuals of a suburban street before it switches to an office space. Jack is hidden by the screen for the first chorus, which is slightly extended.

An elevator appears, and "Jack" rises from the floor, pushing a button. "Jack" sinks back into the floor and the visuals zoom upward, revealing the real Jack now above the screen, who continues walking as he sings the second verse, creating the illusion of walking along rooftops. The visuals onscreen change, making Jack appear to ride a bike, ski, and drive a car. The car "explodes" as the song ends.

3 I Won't/Birthday Party (mashup) The Maybe Man/Neotheater Ryan mentions that this mashup was based on a mashup video he saw on YouTube. The video was from 1 Sip, Bad For Me.[1] The first two verses and choruses of I Won't are performed to the instrumental of Birthday Party accompanied by visuals of rings radiating out from themselves. The bridge of Birthday Party is then played with Jack's voice autotuned, then the chorus of Birthday Party and ending by combining the first verse of I Won't with the last of Birthday Party.
4 The DJ Is Crying For Help The Maybe Man Jack sings the first chorus with artificial harmony before sinking into the floor. The stage is bathed in purple light as Ginny is given the spotlight, playing the violin. When the second chorus drops, bright lasers shoot out across the venue in addition to the static-like visuals.
5 God Is Really Real (live debut) The Maybe Man Jack performs the song with the guitar, and the visuals consist of video footage of Jack playing in real time without color. The song begins with its chorus and the second verse is cut.
6 The Good Part The Click The song begins with a point-of-view cinematic of Jack walking up to a soundboard and taking a drink. His hands grow, and he begins playing the soundboard, creating distorted effects until his hands return to normal. From there, he creates the beat of The Good Part which leads into the song. The second verse is cut for time. The visuals consist of grayscale trees which turn red during the chorus, reminiscent of Ok Orchestra's cover art.
7 Bang! OK ORCHESTRA A curtain drops behind Jack, and a red light shines on him, casting his shadow on the curtain. Adam plays alongside him for the chorus until he and Ryan approach the light, appearing to use their hands to create shadow puppets. The bridge is extended with new instrumental, accompanied by Jack playing the drums with his shadow. His shadow suddenly begins acting on its own and playing different instruments. It plays the cowbell for a long while until Jack reaches forward, using his shadow to take it away. The shadow holds up signs counting down from 10 until the curtain drops, revealing visuals of many humanoid shadows playing drums in front of a fiery background.
8 Inertia The Maybe Man The song's intro is orchestrated, or as Ryan puts it, “More broadway sounding”. The song also concludes with a light orchestrated outro which leads into Touchy Feely Fool.
9 Touchy Feely Fool The Maybe Man The set turns into a spaceship as its traveling to outer space. Actors in astronaut suits can be seen at the back. The outro is shortened slightly.
10 Karma Neotheater Another POV cinematics plays, showing Jack on stage. The stage collapses beneath him and the crowd begins floating, holding signs reading "Play Karma." Jack is shown floating in space. As the song progresses, he starts falling back down to Earth. The second verse is cut, leading into the bridge which has Jack being blown around by the wind. In the bridge, he carries helium balloons until they all pop and Jack continues his descent. The song ends just before he hits the ground.
11 Turning Out/p. ii/p. iii (medley) The Click, Neotheater, The Maybe Man Ryan sings the first verse and chorus of the first 2 parts solo on the piano, and sings the entirety of part 3 with Ginny on violin as the rest of the band makes their way to the crowd.
12 World's Smallest Violin OK ORCHESTRA The band performs on the venue's bleaches. Ryan and Ginny make it to the rest of the band just in time for the ending.
13 Steve's Going To London The Maybe Man The band plays the first verse and chorus together. The rest begin to leave during the second verse, leaving Jack with Arnetta. Arnetta leaves during the Bridge, leaving Jack alone until the final chorus, where the band reveals themselves back on stage. The build-up to the final chorus is extended as Jack hurries back to stage, while Adam introduces the band, giving Ginny, Arnetta, and Chris time to do brief solos. Jack returns for the final chorus, playing the banjo.
14 Burn The House Down The Click (Deluxe Edition) The song with some fire effects in the background.
15 How We Made: Way Less Sad OK ORCHESTRA Ryan tells stories of going to dinner and the library with Jack, and home videos which inspired parts of the beat and melody. The second verse is cut, and Jack's voice is autotuned during the bridge.
16 Don't Throw Out My Legos Neotheater The visuals are reminiscent of the exteriors apartment buildings, with their windows lighting up in various patterns.
The Dumb Song The Maybe Man In venues where the concert is played twice, The Dumb Song is played instead of Don't Throw Out My Legos. The second verse is cut.
17 100 Bad Days Neotheater The song is played as normal, with the visuals reminiscent of blue light shining through rectangular prisms. Before the bridge, one light begins flickering before falling to the stage with a loud crash. The house lights come on and Ryan insists it is not part of the show, claiming there's broken glass all over the stage. A "cleanup crew" arrives, and the music begins fading back in before one is revealed to be Jack in disguise. The final chorus kicks back in, now accompanied by green lights and lasers as the phrase "It WAS part of the show" flashes above the stage.
18 Weak/2085 (encore) The Click/The Maybe Man A final POV cinematic plays, looking through Jack's eyes as he looks in the mirror backstage. He begins to grow, and sees his own giant eye staring back at him from the mirror. Ryan knocks, and he returns to normal, grabbing his guitar as 2085's instrumentals fade in. Visuals reminiscent of The Maybe Man's cover art fade in as the band gathers on stage, surprising the audience by suddenly singing Weak. The TMM visuals become pulsing neon colors as the band sings the first two verses and choruses, transitioning into 2085 where the bridge would be.
19 2085 (live debut/partial) The Maybe Man Live footage showing the band and audience is shown in the center of the screen as the song is performed. When the bridge begins, a curtain falls over the whole stage, lighting up blue. Jack stops the song to give a speech. He talks about the hate the band has received throughout the career, from bullies and critics and record labels. He said it was their late father who kept them going. Jack talks about how their father was always unapologetically himself, and before his passing, told him to never waste time not being the biggest versions of themselves.

Jack begins singing the Maybe Man part of 2085, walking behind the curtain. His silhouette begins to grow larger and larger until the curtain drops, revealing a giant animatronic version of Jack. As the song approaches its ending, the real Jack rises from beneath the stage. He throws his hat out to the audience, and the brothers take a bow. The lights dim and come back to reveal the brothers have disappeared.

The Maybe Man Tour (Seoul, South Korea)[]

In the second leg of the tour, AJR traveled to South Korea and Japan to perform a modified version of the tour. Due to stage limitations, only a few songs had stunts and some that did were changed to fit with limitations.

No. Song Title Album Notes
1 Maybe Man (ending) The Maybe Man After the narrator snaps his fingers, it immediately skips to the end of Maybe Man.
4 Sober Up The Click
2 Yes I'm A Mess The Maybe Man The set instead was taken from a reskinned 3 O'Clock Things from the OK ORCHESTRA Tour. The lack of a treadmill also meant Jack had to pretend to walk. These visuals were also used in Milwaukee.
3 I Won't/Birthday Party (mashup) The Maybe Man/Neotheater
4 The DJ Is Crying For Help The Maybe Man
6 The Good Part The Click The point-of-view of Jack was cut. The song starts with Jack just playing the drum pad.
7 100 Bad Days Neotheater The fake light segment was cut.
8 Inertia The Maybe Man
9 Touchy Feely Fool The Maybe Man The set is the same. However, the astronaut actors are not present
10 Karma Neotheater The set is the same, but Jack is no longer floating. The rest of the band is also visible.
11 Turning Out/p. ii/p. iii (medley) The Click, Neotheater, The Maybe Man
12 World's Smallest Violin OK ORCHESTRA
13 Steve's Going To London The Maybe Man Ryan was the one to introduce the band members from Adam's absense. Vinny was also not there to do her violin solo.
14 Burn The House Down The Click (Deluxe Edition)
15 How We Made: Way Less Sad OK ORCHESTRA With stage limitations, all the props were placed in the center instead.
16 The Dumb Song The Maybe Man
17 Bang! OK ORCHESTRA With Adam's absence, Arnetta fills in his role of the shadow puppets.
18 Weak (finale) The Click The finale does not include 2085, Jack's speech, and giant Jack. The concert ends with a marching band similarly from The Click Tour.

Trivia[]

  • Hole In The Bottom Of My Brain, God Is Really Real, and Turning Out Pt. iii were not sang in the album's release show in 2023.
    • God Is Really Real and Turning Out Pt. iii were played during the tour, leaving Hole In The Bottom Of My Brain the only song in the album to not be played live.
    • Hole In The Bottom Of My Brain is the only song that was not sang in The Maybe Man Tour.
  • Norfolk, Virginia was initially the debut show for the tour on April 2, 2024. However, due to issues regarding the venue, the location was postponed to May 23, 2024.
  • A mashup of I Won't and Birthday Party was played.
  • The intro for Inertia was made very theatrical.
  • During Steve's Going To London, Jack has very limited time to return from the bleachers to the stage.
    • For venues with longer distances, Adam will introduce the audience to the other band members with their own solos.
  • At one of the tours, during World's Smallest Violin, Ryan almost got grabbed by security trying to get into the bleachers.
  • During 100 Bad Days, a fake stage light falls out from the ceiling and is staged to seem real, with Ryan saying "This is not a part of the show". Jack later dresses up with a headmask as a janitor on stage to clean the fake light. As he reveals himself, text appears on the top screen, "IT WAS PART OF THE SHOW!"
  • During the Baltimore, MD show, a screen got misaligned sometime after Yes I'm A Mess.
    • Another had an issue where the kabuki for Bang! wasn't set up in time.
  • During the NY, Madison Square Garden show, the lights go off early in the finale of 2085.
  • In Boston, TD Garden, during the end of Steve's Going To London, all of the staff went on stage as a finale of the US tour.
  • In locations where the concert is performed twice, The Dumb Song is played in place of Don't Throw Out My Legos for the second show.
  • On the Seoul performance, there are several changes to the show:
    • On the Seoul stage, there is only 1 screen used for visuals rather than there being 1 main screen, the 2 side screens and the 6 top screens used for visuals during most of the US sets.
    • Bang! and 100 Bad Days were swapped with 100 Bad Days appearing first and Bang! as the penultimate song.
    • Adam Met did not appear on the stage, due to him attending the Democratic National Convention.
    • Ginny Luke was also not there either.
    • Maybe Man was not played, except the 'pandemonium' section.
      • Extra Jacks running around the stage weren't present.
    • During Yes, I'm A Mess, the lack of a treadmill meant Jack had to perform pretending to walk. They also used the original treadmill visuals, instead of the more theatrical TMM tour version.
    • Karma was played normally without Jack floating in space.
      • Additonally, the entire band appeared on stage.
    • During Way Less Sad, the "How We Made" part during the 'library' and the 'restaurant' scenes were conducted center of the stage rather than going left and right in most of the US shows.
    • The ending song is Weak and it ends with a marching band similarly to The Click Tour. After this, there are no credits.
  • On Jacksonville, during Steve's Going to London, the crew was late, so when the lights turn on after the bridge they weren't there, so Jack instead of saying "What the hell?" and "I gotta get back to stage!", says "Where are they!?" and "They're supposed to be on stage!"[2]
  • The Maybe Man Tour had it own livestream concert (similar to AJR’s One Spetacular Night) that were a recorded from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This was called The Maybe Man Immersive Concert Experience and you could see it at October 16th and 17th.
  • Two early setlists were found on closer inspection of the tour credits and The Making Of documentary, mainly just swapping songs around, particularly God is Really Real.
